Title: Matching Game
Age: 1-2 Year old
Subject Area: PreMath Knowledge Standard 1
Length of time for activity: 3-6 minutes
The goal of this activity is to help your child begin to observe the different characteristics of objects so as to pick those items which are alike.
Materials Needed:
- Baggie
- Pairs of objects from around the house (2 of each thing), for example:
- Two toilet paper rolls
- Two spools
- Two pencils
- Two plastic spoons
What to do:
- Look around your house and collect pairs of objects.
- Store pairs in a baggie so you are prepared ahead of time for the game.
- Sit down on the floor together and pour the bag of items out in front of the two of you.
- Pick one object and explain to your child what it is. Ask them to find the one that looks just like it.
- After you have matched all the pairs, have your child pick the first item and you pick the item that matches.
Option: As your child gets older, this game can increase in difficulty just by changing the items you collect from around the house.
