In the State Early Learning Standards Developmental Domain: Infants can share the following:
- Smiles and shows pleasure when others talk to them
- Seeks attention and contact with people
- Expresses comfort or discomfort
- Vocalizes in response to sounds produced by others
As parents respond to their infant in a warm nurturing and responsive way, this establishes a secure mother/child bond and builds a positive relationship, according to Hosnits (2005). A strong bond and trusting relationship is key to developing the social emotional needs of our child.
In the book, “You Really Can Make a Difference,” the author shares in Chapter 2 about the importance of the mother child bond. She reflects on theorist John Bowlby’s Attachment Theory
