Length of time: This is done a few minutes here or there, every day.

In the State Early Learning Standards Developmental Domain: Infants can share the following:

  • Smiles and shows pleasure when others talk to them
  • Seeks attention and contact with people
  • Expresses comfort or discomfort
  • Vocalizes in response to sounds produced by others

As parents respond to their infant in a warm nurturing and responsive way, this establishes a secure mother/child bond and builds a positive relationship, according to Hosnits (2005). A strong bond and trusting relationship is key to developing the social emotional needs of our child.
