BLOG Content

The goal of this activity is to reinforce prereading skills while learning letter names.

Material Needed:
  • Green Construction Paper
  • Fish Pattern
  • Marker
  • Magnet
  • Yarn
  • Dowel Rod or Stick
  • Paper Clips
What to do:
1. Cut out fish pattern and trace 26 fish out of green construction paper. 2. Cut out all 26 fish. 3. Place the capital letter on one side of the fish and the lower case letter on the other side. 4. Pin on a paper clip to each fish. 5. Tie a long piece of yarn (3 ft.) on the end of the stick or dowel rod with a magnet tied to the end. 6. Spread the fish around on the floor. Have your child sit on a kitchen chair and “fish” for a letter fish by trying to pick one up with the magnet. The one they pick up is the letter they will say and eventually learn the sound of.
