PreWriting (5-6 Years Old)

Length of time for activity: 15-18 minutes

Objective: The goal of this activity is to encourage the development of pre-reading skills by providing materials for your child to create their own books.

Materials needed:

  • Old Wallpaper Books
  • Stapler
  • Construction Paper or Trying Paper
  • Scissors

What To Do:

  1. Choose pages from a wallpaper book for the front and back.
  2. Put several pages sandwiched in between.
  3. Trim off the excess from the sides so that all are equal lengths.
  4. Staple together.
  5. Write title on front of cover with permanent marker. Date it and write child’s name.
  6. Have child draw the inside pictures.
  7. Place the book on their bookshelf to read and reread.
