The goal of this activity is to place an object into the single opening on the top of the Cheese ball container. This is a problem-solving skill that is an early pre-puzzle activity. This exercise is also good for eye hand coordination. Your child has grasped a simple object then learns how to let go at the appropriate time once it enters the single opening of the lid to drop into the container.
Material Needed:
- Empty cleaned canister with a plastic lid
- Decorative Contact Paper
- Knife (to cut slit in plastic lid)
- Miscellaneous items: Blocks, spools, or round metal baby jar lids
What to do:
- With an empty cleaned canister like a Planter’s Cheese ball container (or round Oatmeal container) we will make a fun inexpensive toy using thigs around your home.
- Cut a strip of colorful contact paper the height and width of the container. Cover the Container.
- With a sharp knife, cut the desired shape in the lid of the container.
- Show your child how they can drop the shape inside the container through the slit in the lid.
- Model for them how to pull off the lid and dump out the contents so that it can be played again.
