PreMath (3-4 Years Old)

Length of time: 9-12 minutes

Brain research shows that learning math is not just memorizing math facts when they get to school. Math learning begins in the home well before they enter the school room doors.  During the early years, children begin to learn using concrete objects during play. They learn about:

Number concepts
Patterns & relationships
Geometry & spatial sense
Measurement
Data Collections (organization, representation)

Chapter 6 in the book, “You Really Can Make a Difference”, shares some specific age appropriate activities one can do with their young child 0-5 years of age.

Standards 2: Demonstrate an understanding of patterns and relationship
Benchmark 2.1: Uses the attributes of objects for comparison and patterning.

In the Comment Post below, please share your child’s age and if they are a boy or girl. Create an activity to help your child recognize common shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle). What activity did you make that used patterns, measurement, or number concepts? (Would you like to share a picture?)
